USA Women Down Canada With Convincing 17-6 Victory

Paige Hauschild scored three goals in the win over Canada on Thursday night
Princeton, NJ - December 19 - After a night off, the USA Women's National Team returned to the pool at the 2019 Holiday Cup with a determined 17-6 win over Canada. Maddie Musselman (Newport Beach, CA/UCLA/CdM Aquatics), Makenzie Fischer (Laguna Beach, CA/Stanford/SET), Kiley Neushul (Isla Vista, CA/Stanford/NYAC) and Paige Hauschild (San Marcos, CA/USC/Santa Barbara 805) all scored three goals in the victory. Amanda Longan (Moorpark, CA/USC/Santa Barbara 805) and Gabby Stone (La Jolla, CA/Stanford/San Diego Shores) combined for six saves in net. In the first match of the night Italy defeated the Netherlands 7-4 behind two goals from Elisa Queirolo. Team USA jumped out to a 4-0 lead capped by a goal from Alys Williams (Huntington Beach, CA/UCLA/Huntington Beach WPF) with 2:33 left in the first quarter. Canada scored to stop the run only to see Williams deliver again at the end of the period for a 5-1 lead after one. In the second quarter it was more of the same as Team USA blanked Canada 6-0 including two scores from Musselman for a 10-1 lead at the intermission. Canada came to life in the third quarter with two goals but the United States answered with three of their own. The period was capped by a goal from Hauschild for a 14-3 lead. Hauschild kept it going in the fourth quarter as she scored the first goal of the final period for a 15-3 advantage. Musselman and Fischer added goals in the fourth on the way to the 17-6 victory.

The United States went 2/8 on power plays and 4/6 on penalties while Canada was 3/11 on power plays with no penalties attempted.
