FUN FACTS

What was the moment you knew you wanted to represent your country in the Olympic Games? Was it always in the sport of water polo?
My Olympic dream stemmed from watching various soccer World Cups with my family as a child. I enjoyed watching countries compete with their different uniforms and remember following specific players throughout the tournament. I wanted to participate in the Olympic Games in either water polo, soccer, tennis, swimming, or basketball. (I played all of those sports until I was 14 years old.)
What is your hidden talent?
I can drive a stick!
What is your favorite karaoke song?
“Take My Breath Away” by Berlin.
If you could compete in another sport during the Olympic Games what would it be and why?
Tennis. I think it would be a different challenge to play an individual sport.
What is one thing you have to have with you when you travel?
Compression socks.
Biggest superstition if you have one?
I am not superstitious, but I love routines.
What is your biggest fear?
Losing people I love.
What causes are most dear to your heart?
Justice. Equal Opportunity. Sustainability. Kindness. Commitment.
What are two truths and a lie about you?
I have six toes on my left foot.
I have been inside the Great Pyramid of Khufu.
I like to cook.
Do you have a nickname? How did you get it?
Kiley-Sue. My middle name is Susan, and my family calls me Kiley-Sue.
What song would be included on your life’s soundtrack?
“Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley
What advice would you give your younger self and what would you remind your older self?
Try not to count the months, weeks, days (off, on, double, triple, single, etc.). Enjoy the moment!
Etc.: The best thing about water polo is that it’s an extremely challenging sport, and it requires a lot of time. It’s something that you must fall in love with to be able to play at a high level. It can be a lifestyle, too. That’s what’s so great about it...Her mom started her in water polo at age seven and she hated it. But the people she has met and the love she has developed for the game keeps her going.
