Belgrade, Serbia - August 4 - The USA Youth Women got back in the win column at the FINA Youth World Championship, defeating Kazakhstan 17-3. Nine different athletes found the back of the net led by five goals from Jenna Flynn. Lauren Steele and Christine Carpenter teamed up for 15 saves in net. Flynn delivered a hat trick in the opening three minutes as the United States raced out to a 6-0 lead after the opening quarter. It was more of the same in the second quarter as they built an 11-0 advantage at halftime powered by two second quarter goals from Ava Knepper. In the third quarter Kazakhstan broke through with their first goal, but the United States answered with five more of their own. Flynn was back to work with two more goals and Genoa Rossi closed out the scoring in the period with a tally with less than a minute to play. Scoring slowed in the fourth as the United States took a 16-1 lead into the final frame. Ella Woodhead scored early to make it 17-1 and then Kazakhstan's Darya Pochinok connected on consecutive goals for a 17-3 final score.
Team USA went 6/8 on power plays and 3/4 on penalties while Kazakhstan went 1/6 on power plays and 1/1 on penalties.
