USA Youth Women Win Second Straight In Belgrade, Defeating Japan 23-2

Belgrade, Serbia - August 2 - The USA Youth Women's National Team picked up their second straight win at the FINA Youth World Championships with a 23-2 win over Japan. Emily Ausmus again led Team USA with five goals joined by four goals each from Julia Bonaguidi and Jenna Flynn. Lauren Steele and Christine Carpenter combined for 17 saves in the win. Team USA took control of the match right away, opening on a 7-0 run capped by two straight goals from Maggie Hawkins. After Japan scored to stop the run, Bonaguidi added two more to finish off the quarter in front 9-1. Ausmus scored the first two goals to open the second quarter, Flynn added the last and Team USA took a 12-1 edge into intermission. It was more of the same in the third quarter as the United States blanked Japan 7-0 thanks to four goals from women named Ava. Ava Knepper and Ava Stryker each scored twice to propel Team USA to a 19-1 lead after three quarters. The United States closed out the match with a 4-1 edge in the fourth en route to the victory.

Team USA went 5/5 on power plays and 3/3 on penalties while Japan went 0/4 on power plays with no penalties attempted.
