Zagreb, Croatia - August 5 - The USA Cadet Men produced a dominant victory over Zimbabwe, 26-1, today at the World Aquatics U16 World Championships. Three players scored four goals each while goalkeepers John Burns and Alistair Sterrett combined for eight saves. Team USA will next meet Australia tomorrow morning at 7:00am pt. The United States started quickly to set the tone early. Grayson Taylor scored on the opening possession of the game before Aden Shin (2), Andrew Schneider (2), Ronan Keane (2), Channing Wigo, and Taylor again followed suit for a 9-0 lead after the first quarter.
Team USA dispelled any doubt to the outcome in the second. Along with another defensive shutout, the Americans found the back of the net eight times in the period. Owen Marks (2), Wigo, Shin (2), Hunter Loo (2), and Cortez Chavez scored to run the score to 17-0 at halftime.
Harry Siafaris connected on the first two goals of the third quarter before Zimbabwe broke through onto the scoreboard. Taylor and Chavez each scored late for a 21-1 edge at the end of the third.
From there, the final frame was all window dressing for the United States. Siafaris (2), Francesco Pintaric, Taylor, and Dominic Palandrani all scored to confirm the 26-1 win.
Team USA went 8/10 on power plays and 3/4 on penalties while Zimbabwe went 1/4 on power plays with no penalties attempted.
