Zagreb, Croatia - August 4 - The USA Cadet Men beat Germany, 12-8, today at the World Aquatics U16 World Championships. Team captain Aden Shin scored four goals while goalkeeper Alistair Sterrett recorded 10 saves. Team USA will face Zimbabwe next early tomorrow morning at 2:35am pt. As this game began, Channing Wigo netted the first goal on a power play for the Americans. Germany responded but Shin found the back of the net to give the United States a 2-1 edge after the first quarter of play.
Andrew Schneider started the scoring in the second with a counterattack goal. The Germans answered with a pair of goals before Wigo converted again. Germany connected on a power play chance late to level the halftime score at 4-4.
In the third quarter, Germany earned a penalty and took the lead on its conversion from five meters. Shin and Owen Marks netted goals for Team USA but the Germans quickly knotted things back up. Shin and Marks would not be denied as both scored again to close the quarter with an 8-6 lead.
Francesco Pintaric got in on the action with two early goals to start the final frame for the United States. Germany would score twice more but Cortez Chavez and Shin put the game out of reach with two goals to cement the 12-8 victory.
Team USA went 6/9 on power plays and 1/2 on penalties while Germany went 2/6 on power plays and 2/3 on penalties.
