Naples, Italy - July 3 - The USA Men's National Team defeated South Korea 30-3, while the USA Women's National Team saw a comeback effort fall short in a 10-9 loss to Russia at the World University Games got underway yesterday in Italy. The USA Men were dominant in their victory over South Korea piling up 30 goals as Bennett Williams led the way with six scores followed by five each from Tyler Abramson and AJ Rossman. Team USA built a 16-1 advantage and halftime and never looked back in picking up the win 30-3.
Jack Turner manned the cage for the first three quarters posting nine saves before Sam Krutonog finished things off in the fourth with four stops.
The USA Women started off strong taking a 1-0 lead over Russia before Russia battled back in the second to take a 4-2 lead. Russia looked to put the match away in the third quarter when they built a 7-3 lead going to the fourth period. In the final eight minutes Team USA staged a furious rally scoring six goals but came up just short as Russia earned the one goal victory.
The USA Men return to action on July 5 against Great Britain at 6:30am pt with the USA Women back in the pool on July 4 against Italy at 8:30am pt.
