S & R Sport Club Of The Month - August 2015 - North Irvine Water Polo Club (Northwood)

Aug. 27, 2015
The winner of the S & R Sport Club of the Month for August 2015 is North Irvine Water Polo Club (Northwood). For winning, North Irvine will receive a gift from S & R Sport. To nominate a club you think is worthwhile please email media@usawaterpolo.org. Here is the nomination submitted by club director Steve Carrera.

The goal of North Irvine WPC (Northwood WPC) is to teach community, camaraderie, respect, team work and discipline through the sport of water polo. We want to keep a grounded perspective when it comes to our goals. We want players at our club to be life long members of the water polo community. We want to help nurture a love for the sport of water polo and through that love, kids develop their skills. Whatever your son or daughters goals are, we can help that player accomplish them.

Playing wise, winning tournaments is great but the biggest thrill I get as a club director is when families email or call me and say, "I used to have to drag my son/daughter to practice when they were playing X sport. Now, they are waiting in the car for me and they get mad if we are running late." That makes me happy. It makes me feel like that kid has found their passion and as a parent and coach, we all want that for our kids.

Although we are a small community, we are able to compete on the national stage. Winning 16 and Under Boys JOs this year and getting 2nd place in 10s in 2014. But the biggest accomplishment in my opinion for the club is getting 4th place 2 years in a row at the 12 and Under level. Being able to do that with kids aging up and some coming up from 10s really showed the development mentality that we have at our club. Of course we love to win, but developing players so that they can play in high school, college and beyond is much more important.
