UCLA Regains Top Spot In Women's Varsity Poll With NCAA Championship Ahead

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The conference championships are done and the landscape of the women's water polo scene has changed to a great extent as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the Week 15/April 29 Women's Varsity Polls.

The No. 1 position in all three polls experience changes this week as Mountain Pacific Sports Federation champion the University of California-Los Angeles (National Top 20) and Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) championWhittier College (Division III Top 10) assume top billing in their respective groups, while CWPA Champion Princeton Universitytakes over sole possession of the No. 1 slot in the league's Top 10.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the CWPA, Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), Big West Conference, Golden Coast Conference, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2015 WOMEN'S VARSITY NATIONAL TOP 20 (WEEK 15)

The University of California-Los Angeles used a championship caliber performance at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Champioship over the weekend to dislodge Stanford University to take over the No. 1 spot in the Week 15/April 29 Women's Varsity National Top 20 Poll.

For the first time in over 10 years, all but one position in the National Top 20 changes hands as the outcomes of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA), Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), Big West Conference, Golden Coast Conference and Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship tournaments over the weekend bring about radical and significant changes to the national women's water polo scene.

UCLA, which picks up 100 points to rate as the unanimous No. 1 team in the land, is followed by Stanford (94 points).  The University of California (89 points), which finished second to UCLA at the MPSF Championship, leaps over theUniversity of Southern California (87 points) to claim the No. 3 spot.

The University of Hawaii (80 points) and the University of California-Irvine (75 points) exchange positions at No. 5 and 6, while San Jose State University (67 points) and Arizona State University (63 points) rise and fall, respectively, to take over at No. 7 and 8. 

The only tie of this week's Top 20 comes at No. 9 as California State University-Northridge (56 points) and Princeton University (56 points) move up from No. 10 and 12 to complete the Top 10.

The long stalwart of this week's Top 20 is Indiana University (50 points), which second to Princeton at the CWPA Championship, as the Hoosiers hold firm at No. 11.

The University of California-Davis (49 points) drops to No. 12, while the University of California-Santa Barbara (38 points), Loyola Marymount University (35 points) and Long Beach State University (29 points) round out the Top 15 at No. 12-to-15, respectively.

Univeristy of the Pacific (23 points) and San Diego State University (22 points) drop to No. 16 and 17, with Wagner College (14 points), Hartwick College (12 points) and the University of Michigan (7 points) accounting for the final spots in the Top 20.

2015 WOMEN'S VARSITY DIVISION III TOP 10 (WEEK 15)

The Poets of Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Champion Whitter College(99 points) take over as the coaches' top choice among small college programs in the Week 15/April 29 Women's Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll.

Whittier leads a Top 10 which experienced significant changes from No. 1-to-No. 10 slots.

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (95 points) drops back to No. 2 and Chapman University (88 points) rises to No. 3 with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (85 points) slipping to No. 4.

The University La Verne (79 points) and Connecticut College (72 points) jump to No. 5 and 6, respectively, with California Lutheran University (71 points), the University of Redlands (69 points) and Occidental College (60 points) take over at No. 7-to-9.

Washington & Jefferson College (57 points) complete the Top 10.

2015 WOMEN'S CWPA TOP 10 (WEEK 15/FINAL)

Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Champion Princeton University resumes sole possession of the No. 1 spot in the Week 15/April 29 CWPA) Top 10 Poll.

A ranking of the league's entire varsity membership (Division I/II/III), the poll's No. 1 position has been traded between the Tigers (100 points) and the CWPA Championship runner-up Hoosiers of Indiana University (97 points) for most of the season with Indiana holding the spot four prior times (Preseason, Week 1, Week 4, Week 5) and Princeton previously claiming the berth nine times (Week 2, Week 3, Week 6, Week 7, Week 8, Week 9, Week 10, Week 11, Week 12).  The duo were tied at No. 1 in the Week 13 and Week 14 rankings.

The remainder of the Top 10 mirrors the results of last weekend's CWPA Championship hosted by Princeton asHartwick College (90 points), the University of Michigan (85 points) and Brown University (80 points) hold the No. 3-to-5 spots. Harvard University (75 points), Bucknell University (70 points), George Washington University (65 points), Mercyhurst University(60 points) and CWPA Division III Champion Connecticut College (55 points) finish out the final CWPA Top 10 Poll of the season.
