The winner of the S & R Sport Athlete of the Month for June 2014 is Jacob Eddy of the Spartan Water Polo Club in Michigan. To nominate an athlete you think is worthy email media@usawaterpolo.org. For winning, Jacob will receive a $50 gift certificate to SRSport.com. Here is the nomination submitted for Jacob by his coaches, Matt and Ron.
Jacob developed a love of the game as he joined up for the first time in our middle school program just five years ago. During this time, he has blossomed into a terrific student-athlete improving his game by leaps and bounds and making him the terrific young man he is today. His leadership this past spring and so far this summer has helped our club qualify a 16u boys team for JOs for the first time since 2010. He is a leader in and out of the water, being one of the first ones in the water and one of the last players out of the water. He is always working on his shot, leg strength, and lock down defense. It isn’t about the stats for Jacob, it’s about improvement – for everyone including himself. It’s about being a team and building friendships together in and out of the water.
Jacob takes a lot of pride in his game, and he always goes the extra mile in looking for ways to get better and for ways to get his teammates to be better. This strong work ethic and leadership makes him a terrific nominee for athlete of the month. In addition, he shows the same attitude towards everything he does outside of the pool as he has a 3.91 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society. Jacob continues to amaze us each day, and it’s this valuable leadership and work ethic that he displays day in and day out that will continue to make him successful in the future.
