LOS ANGELES - Mary Lou Retton and Edwin Moses, two of the brightest stars of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, are among dozens of Olympians who will participate in a gala celebration on July 18 at the L.A. Coliseum to commemorate the 25-year anniversary of those historic Games.
The event, co-sponsored by the Los Angeles Sports Council and the Southern California Committee for the Olympic Games (SCCOG), will feature an Olympic-themed show created by David Wolper, the producer of the spectacular 1984 Olympic Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
Tickets to the July 18 gala are available to the public at a cost of $184 per person, which includes a pre- and post-dinner reception under the famous Coliseum peristyle. To order tickets online visit www.The84Games.com or phone (213) 482-6352.
Retton catapulted to international fame by winning the women's gymnastics All Around gold medal at the 1984 Olympic Games, becoming the first American woman gymnast ever to win a gold medal. She also won two silver medals and two bronze medals. Her five medals were the most won by any athlete at the '84 Games.
Moses is known as the greatest 400-meter hurdler ever, winning the gold medal in '84 (he also won the event at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games), which came in the midst of his incredible 9-year, 122-race winning streak. He had the honor of taking the Athlete's Oath during the 1984 Opening Ceremony.
Later that year, the pair shared Sports Illustrated's "Sportsman of the Year" award.
