Rotterdam, Netherlands - May 1 - The USA Women's National Team opened play at the World Cup Division 1 qualification event with a 12-8 victory over Hungary.
Emily Ausmus, fresh off a NCAA Championship with USC, earned player of the game honors following a three-goal effort.
Jewel Roemer added three goals as well and
Amanda Longan recorded 8 saves in net. Team USA returns to the pool tomorrow at 6:45am pacific time with a match against Spain. Live streaming is available on the

Team USA opened up a 2-0 lead behind goals from Ausmus and
Jordan Raney and led 3-1 after the first. Hungary battled back in the second quarter outscoring Team USA 2-0 to tie the score at 3-3 going into halftime. The whole complexion of the match changed in the third quarter as the United States piled up six goals to build a 9-5 lead going to the fourth. The teams traded goals to start the third but then Team USA ran off four straight to close the period, including two from Roemer, to take advantage going to the fourth.
In the fourth quarter Hungary got within three at 10-7 with around six minutes to play. Team USA responded with goals from Roemer and Ausmus to halt the rally on the way to the 12-8 victory. The United States went 6/11 on power plays and 1/3 on penalties while Hungary went 3/10 on power plays and 2/2 on penalties.
