Singapore - July 24 - The USA Men's National Team finished in eighth place at the 2025 World Aquatics World Championship following a 9-8 loss to Italy.
Ryder Dodd scored three goals to lead the offense in the loss while
Adrian Weinberg recorded 12 saves in net. Team USA finishes play in Singapore with a 3-3 record picking up wins over Canada, Brazil and Singapore.
The first quarter was a back and forth affair as
Ryder Dodd got the scoring started almost immediately with a tally in the opening 35 seconds for a 1-0 lead. Italy answered on the very next possession to tie the game at 1-1.
Ryder Dodd returned fire moments later for a 2-1 lead only to see Italy find the equalizer at the 5:09 mark in the opening quarter. Italy took their first lead of the match with 2:12 to go in the period but
Hannes Daube tied the game on a power play strike with time running out to make it 3-3 after one.
Italy built a two goal lead halfway through the second quarter at 5-3 but
Chase Dodd cut into that advantage not long after with an extraman goal for a 5-4 game. That would stay the score for the remainder of the first half. Italy drew a penalty in the opening minute of the third quarter and scored to go back ahead by two at 6-4. Team USA ended a scoring drought of more than nine minutes when
Dylan Woodhead slammed home a post pass on the power play for a 6-5 game with 3:04 to play in the third. Italy again went up two, but
Dominic Brown delivered on the power play with a little more than 90 seconds to go in the quarter. That score made it 7-6 in favor of Italy and that was the difference going to the fourth.
The see-saw battle continued into the fourth as Italy once again went up two only to see Daube score for an 8-7 match with 4:43 to go. Italy took the lead by two once more at 9-7 on a player advantage goal with 2:18 remaining.
Chase Dodd answered with a power play strike of his own to make it 9-8 in favor of Italy with 2:03 to play. Team USA went hard looking for the tying goal but a power play with :32 to play in the game was well-defended by Italy as they picked up two critical blocks to secure the one goal win.
Team USA went 5/12 on power plays with no penalties attempted while Italy was 2/7 on power plays and 2/2 on penalties.
