USA Women Open Play At World Championships With 15-7 Win Over China

Singapore - July 10 - The USA Women's National Team opened their World Aquatics World Championship defense with a 15-7 win over China earlier today in Singapore. Emma Lineback and Emily Ausmus powered the offense with three goals each while Amanda Longan recorded 13 saves in net. Team USA returns to the pool on Sunday at 8:45am et/5:45am pt when they take on the Netherlands in their next group play match. Live streaming of all USA matches will be available on Peacock (login required).

Jenna Flynn got Team USA on the board immediately, scoring in the opening thirty seconds of the match. After China tied the game, Team USA scored the next two on penalties courtesy of Ava Stryker and Ryann Neushul to secure a 3-1 lead after one. China battled back in the second quarter scoring three of the first four goals of the period to tie the match at 4-4 with 6:02 to play in the first half. Team USA had a strong answer as they delivered three unanswered goals to build a 7-4 edge at intermission. Lineback, Jovana Sekulic and Ausmus all find the cage in that run.

The third quarter told the story in this one as Team USA took complete control. Flynn, Ausmus and Lineback all scored in the opening moments of the period and Team USA went in front 10-4 with a little less than six minutes to play in the quarter. China scored to stop the run but the United States wasn't done. They closed the quarter with a flurry of activity, adding three more goals to go up 13-5 with action moving to the fourth quarter. Ausmus added her third of the day early in the final frame and Tara Prentice chipped in another goal as the United States rolled to the eight goal win.

Team USA went 1/6 on power plays but came up big on penalties connecting on four of five chances. China was 2/7 on power plays with no penalties attempted.
