USA Women Lose To Hungary 12-7 In World Cup Division 1 Play

Maryn Dempsey scored twice for Team USA in the loss to Hungary
Alexandroupolis, Greece - January 15 - The USA Women were defeated by Hungary 12-7 today at the World Cup Division 1 tournament. Maryn Dempsey and Chrissy Flynn scored two goals apiece while Isabel Williams notched 12 saves in the cage. Team USA is back in action tomorrow against the host nation of Greece at 12:00pm et/9:00am pt. Two minutes into this game, Flynn connected on a penalty attempt to give the United States an early lead. The rest of the first quarter belonged to Hungary who played great defense and jumped in front 2-1 after one. In the second, Dempsey followed suit with a penalty shot goal from five meters to level the score. The Hungarians remained in control with a pair of goals before Maggie Ryan powered another penalty shot into the back of the net. Hungary connected on three goals throughout the remainder of the period while Team USA found one from Malia Allen, marking her first with the Senior National Team, as Hungary held a 7-4 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, each side scored just once with Dempsey connecting on her second during a power play to leave the score at 8-5 in favor of the Hungarians. The final frame saw Hungary close this one out with four goals opposite two from Charlotte Raisin and Flynn to set the final score, 12-7.

The United States went 3/10 on power plays and 3/3 on penalties while Hungary went 3/9 on power plays and 0/3 on penalties.
