Team USA got out to a quick start behind Fattal and Musselman who wasted no time putting their respective imprints on this game. Krisztina Garda got Hungary on the board before another score from Fattal. The Europeans leveled the score via goals from Vanda Valyi and Rebecca Parkes prior to Jovana Sekulic finishing inside off a great assist from Kaleigh Gilchrist. Garda and Fattal traded scores to close the quarter and the United States led 5-4. Both defenses picked up the slack to begin the second period with nearly four minutes of action gone before the captain Maggie Steffens doubled the advantage. Jenna Flynn got one to go from Jordan Raney and the Americans led by three. The visitors capitalized on a counter attack when Dora Leimeter found the back of the net but Musselman got the final word of the half with her second goal from a five meter try to give Team USA an 8-5 lead at the halftime break.

Hungary pulled within one on back-to-back goals from Rita Keszthelyi to open the half but the United States answered with three consecutive scores from Jewel Roemer (2) and Musselman to push the advantage to 11-7 after three quarters of play. Each team scored one time in the final frame, courtesy of Sekulic and Keszthelyi, to set the final score at 12-8 in favor of the Americans.

The United States went 6/11 on player advantages while Hungary was 2/7. Team USA went 1/1 on penalties while Hungary did not attempt a penalty shot.
