San Diego, CA - June 25 - The USA Women's National Team defeated Italy 14-5 today in an exhibition at UC San Diego.
Maddie Musselman led the charge offensively with six goals while
Ashleigh Johnson racked up nine saves in net. The two squads return to play on Saturday at Mt. San Antonio College with a 7pm pt opening sprint. The match will stream LIVE on Overnght.com.

Rachel Fattal opened the scoring in this game with a crosscage strike before Musselman put in her first score for a 2-0 lead. Italy would respond however with Chiara Ranalli and Dafne Bettini leveling the score for the Europeans.
Jovana Sekulic capped off the quarter with a goal in set to give Team USA a 3-2 edge.
In the second period, Musselman converted on a player advantage to get things started. Giuditta Galardi answered for the Italians but then the United States began to gain control.
Kaleigh Gilchrist, Musselman, and Fattal all rang the register for the Americans who led 7-3 at the break.
Musselman fired home her fourth and fifth scores of the contest to begin the third quarter and then Fattal pushed the Team USA total to double figures. From there, Musselman deposited another score for good measure and
Emily Ausmus came up with a steal and score right in front of the cage as the United States held a 12-3 lead heading into the final frame.
The two sides exchanged a pair of goals with Italy's Claudia Roberta Marletta and Valeria Palmieri scoring for the visitors as USA's
Jordan Raney and
Maggie Steffens solidified the 14-5 win.
Team USA went 5/8 on power plays and 1/1 on penalties while Italy went 1/7 on power plays and 1/2 on penalties.
