Paris, France - May 6 - The USA Women's National Team beat France 12-6 today at the brand-new Aquatics Centre in Paris.
Jenna Flynn notched four goals while team captain
Maggie Steffens,
Rachel Fattal,
Maddie Musselman, and
Ava Johnson each scored twice.
The opening quarter saw Flynn produce two of her four goals while
Ava Johnson added another for Team USA who led 3-1 after the first. In the second period, Fattal got in on the action with two scores for the United States as Flynn and Johnson each put home another goal to counteract three from the home team and the lead was 7-4 at the break.
Team USA continued the offensive production in the third quarter. Flynn deposited her fourth goal, Musselman netted both her goals, and Steffens found her first, all during power play opportunities to push the lead to 11-5. The final frame saw both defenses pick it up as each side managed just one goal. Steffens scored for the Americans who emerged victorious, 12-6.
Team USA went 8/11 on power plays and 0/1 on penalties while France went 2/6 on power plays and 0/1 on penalties.
