Musselman showed off her scoring prowess right away, putting Team USA up 3-0 early on with a variety of beautiful finishes en route to a first quarter hat trick. Then, Prentice got in on the action before Elle Armit and Dani Jackovich halved the deficit for Australia to make it a two-goal edge for the United States, 4-2, going into the second.
In the second period, both defenses stepped up to pitch a shutout through four minutes. Midway through the frame, Musselman found
Jovana Sekulic in set who finished the play with a redirect score. Australia answered with a pair of goals from Abby Andrews and Charlize Andrews but
Rachel Fattal sent Team USA to the break with a 6-4 lead after knocking down a penalty shot with 0:36 remaining in the half.
Musselman fired home her fourth score of the contest to begin the third quarter and then Prentice got back in on the action to extend the Team USA lead. From there, Jackovich got another one to go for the Aussie Stingers.
Ryann Neushul snuck one past the Australian goalkeeper on a player advantage and Tilly Kearns responded on the next posession to send this one into the fourth with the United States up 9-6.
Neushul began the fourth with her second goal which was answered by Bronte Halligan of Australia. Prentice really left her mark on this game with back-to-back goals midway through the period and she inspired
Jewel Roemer, who followed with her own back-to-back scores to remove all doubt. Alice Williams just changed the final score with a goal in the final second as Team USA earned the 14-8 win.
Team USA went 6/12 on power plays and 2/2 on penalties while Australia went 2/6 on power plays with no penalties attempted.
