Long Beach, CA - April 22 - The USA Women's National Team defeated China 21-11 tonight in an exhibition match at Long Beach City College.
Jenna Flynn scored five times and
Tara Prentice added four goals as
Amanda Longan recorded eleven saves in net. Olympic champions
Alys Williams was honored pregame for her contributions to the Women's National Team as she retires from international competition. Team USA and China will conclude the three-game series on Saturday night at Torrance Aquatic Center at 6pm pt. The match will stream LIVE on Overnght.com.

Team USA came out of the gates firing on all cylinders as they poured in seven scores and held China without a goal in the first eight minutes. Prentice,
Ryann Neushul,
Kaleigh Gilchrist (2),
Maddie Musselman,
Ella Woodhead, and Flynn all found the back of the net as the United States opened the game up 7-0.
In the second period, the Americans picked up where they left off. Musselman, Prentice (2), and Flynn rang the register to start before Jing Zhang and Sanfeng Nong got China on the board. With one minute to play in the second, Flynn and Nong traded goals again to put Team USA up 12-3 at the half.
After a dominant first half from the United States, the two sides were nearly even throughout the second half. In the beginning of the third quarter,
Jewel Roemer put home two goals while Huan and Xuan Wang each scored for China. From there, Flynn scored on a counter attack and
Denise Mammolito went cross cage for a goal before Zhang deposited a pair of scores to earn a hat trick and send the game into the final frame at 16-7 in favor of the Americans.
Team captain
Maggie Steffens got into the action to begin the fourth, taking advantage of a power play opportunity. On the other end, Siya Yan converted on a penalty shot for the visitors then Prentice pushed the home team's lead back to ten. Down the stretch, Team USA got scores from Flynn,
Ava Johnson, and
Emily Ausmus while China had Nong, Zewen Deng, and Dunhan Xiong tickle the twine but it was not enough and the United States emerged victorious, 21-11.
Team USA went 8/11 on power plays with no penalties attempted while China went 2/7 on power plays and 2/2 on penalties.
