Team USA and Serbia were locked in a tight game throughout. Serbia got things going with an extra player goal midway through the first but Max Irving had an answer on the next possession for the Americans. After Serbia retook the lead, Daube and Johnny Hooper responded for the United States, who led 3-2 after one. In the second, Serbia leveled the score before Dylan Woodhead and Ryder Dodd (2) pushed Team USA in front 6-3. The Serbians scored back-to-back goals to pull within one before Daube ended the half with a goal to give the Americans a 7-5 edge at the break.

Serbia began to establish some control of this game in the third period. After Daube officially recorded a hat trick, Serbia poured in six consecutive goals to finish the third up 11-8. It was during that third quarter that Ben Hallock was sent from the match on a brutality call. That gave Serbia a four-minute man advantage where they piled up the goals to take charge of the game.

In the final frame, Dylan Woodhead scored to bring the United States within two. Serbia responded with a pair of scores and then Alex Obert registered his first of the day. The Serbians deposited their final goal of the game with just over two minutes remaining. From there, Team USA needed four but got two from Irving and Daube and Serbia won the group with a 14-12 victory.

The United States went 7/15 on power plays with no penalties attempted while Serbia went 6/13 on power plays and 1/1 on penalties.
