Doha, Qatar - February 11 - Team USA fell to Italy 13-12 in the crossover game during the 2024 World Aquatics World Championships.
Hannes Daube recorded four goals,
Alex Obert earned three, and
Ryder Dodd &
Johnny Hooper each netted two in the loss. The USA Men were without captain
Ben Hallock following a brutality call in their prior match.
Daube scored twice to aid in USA's 3-1 lead, but Italy tied the game at three by the end of the first quarter.
Ryder Dodd scored late in the half to get USA's fourth, then Italy jumped out ahead after back to back goals making it 6-4. In the third quarter, Dodd added his second then
Alex Bowen added one to cut the deficit down by one, 7-6. The back and forth continued with Bowen adding the Team's eighth then Italy converting with just :5 left in the quarter. After winning the 4th quarter swim off,
Johnny Hooper scored on the power play then Daube tied the game once again at 10. The final moments saw Italy take a 13-11 lead, but Bowen would add one more but it would not factor in the decision.
Team USA will now play in the 9th-12th bracket meeting Australia on February, 13 at 5:30am et/2:30am pt.
