Long Beach, CA - June 23 -Â Day 1 of the 2023 World Aquatics Women's World Cup takes place Friday, June 23 at Long Beach City College!
Quarterfinal 3: United States 16, Israel 6
Team USA beat Israel at Long Beach City College to advance to the semifinals of the 2023 World Aquatics Women's World Cup.
Ryann Neushul was named Player of the Game with three goals and
Jenna Flynn added three of her own.
Ashleigh Johnson and
Amanda Longan each notched four saves in the cage during the win.
In the opening quarter, Team USA got on the board first via a penalty shot from
Jewel Roemer. The strong start continued as
Rachel Fattal picked up a steal and finished on the other end.
Kaleigh Gilchrist, Neushul, and Flynn closed the quarter with goals to give the Americans a 5-0 lead after one. In the second period,
Maddie Musselman extended the lead before Shunit Strugo got one to go for Israel. Neushul,
Maggie Steffens, and Gilchrist added three for the United States followed by two more from the Israelis courtesy of Tahel Levi and Alma Yaacobi as Team USA led 9-3 at the halftime break.
The Americans put the game to rest in the third behind three goals in the quarter. Midway through the quarter, Steffens converted on a player advantage and
Jovana Sekulic followed that up with an action shot goal. With time winding down in the frame, Musselman powered in one more to give the United States a 12-3 cushion. Maria Bogachenko opened the fourth period with Israel's fourth goal on a 6m shot. Neushul answered immediately and the sides began trading scores. Hila Futorian, Flynn, Bogachenko, and Flynn again went back and forth before
Emily Ausmus tacked on one last goal to set the final score at 16-6 in Team USA's favor.
Quarterfinal 1: Hungary 20, Greece 13
Hungary picked up the win over Greece in the opening game of the day at Long Beach City College. The Hungarians were led by captain Rita Keszthelyi who poured in six goals as Dora Leimeter and Krisztina Garda both recorded hat tricks. Alda Magyari and Boglarka Neszmely combined for five saves as they split time in net for Hungary.
Quarterfinal 2: Spain 12, Italy 5
Spain defeated Italy in game two of the day at Long Beach City College. Spain got four goals from Elena Ruiz Barril while Judith Forca Ariza and Paula Leiton Arrones deposited two scores each. The Spaniards' defense was led by Martina Terre who notched five saves in the cage.
Quarterfinal 4: Netherlands 15, New Zealand 5
The Netherlands bested New Zealand in the final game of the day at Long Beach City College. Brigitte Sleeking and Simone van de Kraats led the Dutch offense with three goals apiece in a balanced scoring effort. Laura Aarts recorded eight saves and Sarah Buis added two in net for The Netherlands.
