Group B

Marseille 13 - 7 Ferencvaros

Ferencvaros scored the opening goal in this one, but Marseille responded with three and was up 3-1 at the first break. Early in the second period, the visitors tied the score (3-3). Marseille struck back with three goals in less than three minutes, including a power play strike from Team USA attacker Hannes Daube, to go ahead 6-3. Marseille held a 7-4 lead at halftime.

Marseille opened the second half with a goal from distance for 8-4. Shortly after, Hannes Daube made it 9-4 on a successful penalty shot. The French squad got two more goals on the run to push the lead to 11-4. Ferencvaros was goalless for more than nine minutes. Ferencvaros ended its bad run with a power play goal 25 seconds before the last break. But Marseille replied in the same manner seconds before the final frame and Marseille regained a 7-goal lead (12-5). The fourth period was just a formality.

In the next round, Marseille will host Jug. The French will be in competition for 4th Place in the group if they beat the Croats by six or more goals, because they suffered a 5-goal loss in Dubrovnik (9-14).


Group A

Vouliagmeni 14 - 9 Dinamo Tbilisi

Vouliagmeni scored the first two goals in the game, but Dinamo responded with three of its own and took a 3-2 lead. In the middle of the second quarter, the hosts were still in front (4-3). The following four minutes were the turning point as Vouliagmeni scored four unanswered goals. By the end of the first half, Vouliagmeni headed into the halftime break with a 7-4 lead.

The Greeks controlled the game in the second half. Dinamo reduced the gap to two goals twice (5-7 & 7-9), but didn't come any closer. Team USA center Matt Farmer scored late in the fourth period to put Vouliagmeni up 13-8 on the way to victory.

Vouliagmeni did what it had to do to continue toward the Final Eight in Belgrade. The Greeks kept 4th Place in Group A with the win over Dinamo.
 


Pro Recco 16 - 8 Radnicki

The Italians controlled this contest in Serbia. In the 6th minute, Pro Recco had a 5-0 lead. The European champions scored three action goals and converted both of their power plays in the first quarter. By the middle of the second period, Radnicki cut the deficit to two goals. The hosts' 5-2 scoring run was a wake-up call for Pro Recco.

Recco tightened its defense in the next 12 minutes. At the other end of the pool, Recco produced a 6-0 run by the end of the third period, finished off by Team USA center Ben Hallock scoring from two meters. The visitors maintained the difference and controlled the match in the final period.



Spanish Domestic League, Day 22

Barcelona 14 - 6 Rubi

Team USA attacker Luca Cupido scored four for Barcelona in a 14-6 win over Rubi.

Mediterrani 9 - 8 Mataro

Team USA defender Mason McQuet and Mediterrani narrowly defeated Team USA goalkeeper Jack Turner and Mataro, 9-8. Mediterrani controlled from the opening sprint and went up 7-3 midway through the third quarter. Mataro cut the deficit to one goal 0:30 before the end, but Mediterrani responded in its last possession. Mataro scored a consolation goal in the last second.
