Ostia, Italy - December 13 - The USA Women's National Team beat Italy 10-8 today during an exhibition game in Ostia.
Jenna Flynn netted four goals in the win while
Amanda Longan notched ten saves in net. Team USA will have another game versus Italy in Ostia on Saturday at 2pm et/11am pt.
Team USA began the game with its best offensive quarter of the day. Flynn put home two of her four in the opening frame off a counter attack and a penalty attempt.
Ryann Neushul pitched in on a player advantage and
Jovana Sekulic scored inside to give the United States a 4-2 lead after one. In the second period, Italy produced another pair of goals but Team USA captain
Maggie Steffens converted on a power play to make sure the Americans led at the break, 5-4.
Italy battled back to tie the game in the third quarter, scoring three goals in the period. The United States managed two scores in the third from Flynn on a power play and
Jordan Raney on a counter attack so the game entered the final frame level at 7-7. In the fourth,
Kaleigh Gilchrist etched her name in the score book while Flynn and Raney produced additional scores. Italy would only find one goal in the period as Team USA picked up the win.
Team USA went 5/9 on power plays and 1/1 on penalties while Italy went 2/6 on power plays with no penalties attempted.
