Champions League, Day 2

Brescia - Novi Beograd, 8-13

Midway through the first quarter, the Serbs netted three goals in 83 seconds for 3-0. However, Brescia replied with two goals and got into the game. Novi Beograd earned a two-goal advantage with a power-play goal. The visitors maintained the difference in the exchange of goals throughout the second quarter. Still, Team USA attacker Max Irving put an end to the first half with a penalty shot goal for Brescia to cut the deficit in half, 7-8.

After 15 goals in the first half, the match turned into a defensive battle in the third and fourth periods. In the 18th minute, Brescia ended a nice action with an equalizer for 8-8. On the other side, Novi Beograd struggled to regain a lead until, one hundred seconds before the last break, they made it 9-8 with an extra player. After two minutes of play in the fourth, Novi Beograd doubled its advantage from a penalty shot. Brescia didn't surrender, but the Serbs controlled the match. Irving recorded his second consecutive hat trick in Champions League play for Brescia.

Pro Recco - Jug Dubrovnik, 14-7

The man-up attacks were Pro Recco's best weapon in Dubrovnik. The European champion earned its first man-up in the first possession and converted for a 1-0 lead. After that, the defenses dominated. In the 5th minute, Jug scored two quick goals and became a team that controlled the result while Recco chased the hosts. Jug opened the second quarter with a power-play goal for 4-3, but it was the Croats' last goal in the first half. They started missing chances and losing balls in attack. Recco made the most of it. The Italians produced a 4-0 run by halftime to go ahead 7-4.

Team USA attacker Hannes Daube revived Jug's hopes, scoring from an extra player in the 18th minute (5-7), but Recco silenced the home fans by the end of the period. They scored twice from a power play, and closed the quarter leading 10-5, leaving no way back for Jug. Team USA center and captain Ben Hallock scored two for Pro Recco and Hannes Daube notched three for Jug.

Jadran Split - PVK Jadran, 11-10

In the first-ever Champions League match held in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Team USA attacker Thomas Gruwell and Jadran Split emerged victorious in front of a packed house at the pool in Trebinje. The Croatian team started strong. The first quarter belonged to the visitors and in the 10th minute they scored to take a 4-1 lead. However, PVK Jadran rallied and leveled the score at 5-5, just before the half.

The second half saw both teams trade goals until the Montenegrin champion took the lead at 9-8. But Jadran Split responded with two early goals in the final quarter to take the lead once again at 10-9. The hosts equalized immediately after, but Jadran Split held on to win the match 11-10.

Vouliagmeni - Barceloneta, 11-12

The replay of the 2023 Champions League bronze match was another very exciting duel between the Spaniards and the Greeks. Team USA defender Dylan Woodhead and Vouliagmeni earned a three-goal advantage (6-3) early in the second quarter and maintained it by the halftime break.

Vouliagmeni didn't keep the momentum and Barceloneta found its magic. The Spaniards produced a 4-0 run by the middle of the third period and went ahead 8-7. However, the Greeks bounced back, and entered the final quarter leading 9-8. Vouliagmeni deserved at least one point, but Barceloneta took all three. The Spaniards set the final score (12-11) with 46 seconds to go. Vouliagmeni earned a man-up in its final possession, but they lost the ball and did not get a shot off.

Spandau 04 Berlin - Marseille, 13-10

Team USA attacker Tyler Abramson Spandau taught a lesson to Marseille in the first half of the duel in Berlin. Spandau's 3-0 opening lead set the tone of the match. Marseille cut the deficit to one in the 8th minute (2-3). Spandau responded strongly – by the middle of the second period, the Germans went up 7-2 and didn't let Marseille come back into the game. In the fourth period, Marseille reduced the gap to two (10-12), but didn't go further.

Euro Cup, Group Phase, Day 1

Telimar - Barcelona, 12-11

Telimar took a 4-1 lead at the beginning of the second quarter of the match in Palermo, but just a second before halftime, Barcelona equalized at 5-5 with a penalty goal. The Spaniards extended their lead to 6-5 in the middle of the third quarter, however, Telimar regained their lead in the last quarter with a score of 7-6. Team USA attackers Johnny Hooper and Quinn Woodhead scored two goals each for Telimar, giving them a 9-7 lead. Barcelona scored four goals and Telimar three in the final four minutes, so the points remained in Sicily.

Savona - Apollon Smyrnis, 12-11

After a few twists and turns in the first half of the match in Athens, the hosts had a slim 5-4 advantage. Savona dictated the pace after the middle break, scoring three goals for 7-5. Apollon leveled at 7-7 with two quick goals. Savona rebuilt a two-goal lead at the finish of the match (11-9 & 12-10). Apollon halved the distance on both occasions. The Greeks had the ball in their hands in the last 13 seconds with a chance to equalize, but they could not. Team USA attacker Marko Vavic netted two goals for Savona in the win.

Waspo 98 Hannover - BVSC, 9-10

The Germans imposed their rhythm and took a two-goal lead twice in the first half (3-1 & 4-2). In the 18th minute, the Hungarians leveled the score for the first time (4-4). Hannover went ahead twice in the third period (5-4 & 6-5). After the Germans' sixth goal, BVSC produced a 4-0 scoring run for a 9-6 lead. Three minutes before the end, three goals still separated the rivals (10-7). The Germans reduced the gap, but there was no time for an equalizer. Hannover scored its ninth goal with just three seconds to go. Team USA utility man Kacper Langiewicz found the back of the net for Hannover in the contest.

Ortigia - Panionios, 13-12

Ortigia opened the match with a 3-0 lead. Even though Panionios came back from time to time, Ortigia kept a three-goal difference until 9-6. From there, Panionios caught up with the hosts before the middle break (9-9). The Sicilians netted back-to-back goals in the first two minutes of the final frame and went ahead 11-9.
