Brisbane, Australia - January 19 - The USA Women's National Team defeated Australia 10-5 earlier today in Brisbane to wrap up the exhibition series between the two teams.
Tara Prentice led the way on offense with four goals scored and
Ashleigh Johnson recorded 22 saves in net for the United States.
Team USA controlled the game from the opening sprint, getting opening period goals from Prentice,
Maggie Steffens, and Julia Bonguidi while holding the Australians scoreless to lead 3-0 after the first. The United States got two more on the board in the second quarter via
Emily Ausmus and
Jordan Raney as Australia also got a pair of goals in the period from captain Zoe Arancini and Maddy Steere, giving the Americans a 5-2 lead at the halftime break.
Prentice found the back of the net twice more in the third period for Team USA while Arancini responded with one for the hosts, setting the score at 7-3 in favor of the United States after three quarters of play. In the final frame, the United States put the game out of reach behind another score for Prentice and a pair of goals out of
Denise Mammolito. Elle Armit and Danjiela Jackovich scored for Australia in the fourth and the Americans secured the victory, 10-5.
