Larissa, Greece - August 25 - The USA Women's Cadet National Team got into the win column at the FINA U16 World Championship, defeating South Africa 18-4 earlier today. Team USA's offense was on full display in this game from the very beginning. Umeda, Claire Minton, Amber Nowaczek, Lucy Haaland-Ford, and Kirra Pantaleon started the avalanche in the first quarter while South Africa picked up a single goal to make the score 5-1 headed into the second quarter. After the South Africans opened the second with a goal, Jermonie Billingsly (2) and Rosalie Hassett (2) scored for the United States to leave the score at 9-2 at the halftime break.
Team USA left no doubt to the outcome of this game in the third quarter. Umeda, Alimarie Deprez (2), Nowaczek, and Allison Cohen (2) found the back of the net for the Americans in the period as South Africa again managed just one goal, putting the score at 15-3 in favor of the United States headed into the final frame. Team USA continued their dominance in the fourth quarter with three goals from Umeda, Minton, and Charlotte Raisin opposite a single goal from the South Africans to solidify the 18-4 victory.
Team USA scored three times on power plays and went 1/1 on penalty shots while South Africa scored once on power plays with no penalty shots attempted.
