Zagreb, Croatia - July 29 - The USA Cadet Women lost to Hungary today, 13-9, in the quarterfinals at the World Aquatics U16 World Championships. Paige Segesman scored four goals while goalkeeper Margaret Weber notched one save. Team USA now moves into the 5th-8th Place semifinals against New Zealand on Thursday, July 30 at 8:30am pt. Hungary got off to a great start in this contest which allowed the Europeans to dictate the game from the outset. Three goals in the opening quarter coupled with great defense set the score at 3-0 after one.

The Hungarians earned a penalty and converted the attempt from five meters to begin the second period before Kate Bambury scored a counter attack goal to get Team USA on the board. Hungary responded and then Segesman got one back for the Americans. After another Hungarian goal, Segesman sent her second into the back of the net late for a 6-3 halftime score.

The two sides traded goals in the third quarter. Hungary put away the first and last scores with two from Natalie Arata and Bambury sandwiched in between leaving the score at 8-5 headed to the final frame.

In the fourth, Hungary scored two quick goals to take control before Blake Hofley got one back. The Hungarians scored again but the United States roared back with three straight goals from Claire Billish and Segesman (2) to pull within two. Hungary kept the Americans at bay in the final minute with two more goals to earn the 13-9 win.

Team USA went 2/5 on power plays with no penalties attempted while Hungary went 3/4 on power plays and 1/1 on penalties.
