Larissa, Greece - August 24 - The USA Women's Cadet National Team played Australia even in a 10-10 draw at the FINA U16 World Championships earlier today. The first quarter saw an explosion of offense between the two sides. Minton, Kirra Pantaleon, Cohen, and Rosalie Hassett scored for the United States opposite four goals from the Australians as well to leave the score knotted at 4-4 after one. In the second period, Team USA opened up a lead with another big offensive quarter and lockdown defense. Cohen (3) and Minton scored for the Americans while they held Australia scoreless to make the score 8-4 in favor of the United States at halftime.
Australia rallied back in the second half, beginning with three goals in the third while Sofia Umeda found the back of the net for Team USA's lone score in the period, putting the score at 9-7 in favor of the United States. Australia continued their comeback effort in the final frame with three straight goals to take the lead with 0:40 remaining in regulation but Alimarie Deprez would convert on a player advantage for the Americans with 0:11 to play to force the 10-10 draw.
Team USA scored four times on power plays and went 3/3 on penalty shots while Australia scored four times on power plays and went 2/3 on penalty shots.
