USA Women Continue Group Play At FINA U16 World Championship With 6-3 Loss To Spain

Larissa, Greece - August 22 - The USA Women's Cadet National Team lost in group play at the FINA U16 World Championships, falling to Spain 6-3 earlier today. Lucy Haaland-Ford, Rosalie Hassett, and Amber Nowaczek scored the three goals for the United States. Team USA returns to action tomorrow against Hungary at 11:15am et/8:15am pt. Haaland-Ford converted on a player advantage to open the scoring with 5:20 remaining in the opening quarter before Spain answered with under one minute to play, sending the game into the second period tied 1-1. In the second quarter, Hassett scored for the United States sandwiched between two scores for the Spanish to put them ahead 3-2 at halftime.

Nowaczek scored the only goal of the third on a penalty shot conversion with 2:41 remaining to send this game into the final frame all tied up at 3-3. It was all Spain in the fourth quarter as they found the back of the cage three times to solidify the 6-3 victory.

Team USA scored once on power plays and went 1/1 on penalties while Spain scored once on power plays with no penalty shots attempted.
