Belgrade, Serbia - August 16 - The USA Men's Youth National Team fell out of medal contention at the FINA Youth World Championship following a 13-10 loss to Spain in the crossover round.

Spain opened up with a 2-0 lead early in the first before Team USA battled back to tie the game behind goals from
Christopher Arakelian and
Peter Castillo. Spain came right back with two straight goals and took a 4-2 lead after the opening eight minutes. Dodd went to work early in the second quarter delivering on consecutive power plays to tie the match at 4-4 with 5:37 to go in the half. The teams would trade goals the rest of the quarter with
Gage Verdegaal having the last word to make it 7-6 in favor of Spain at the break.
The offenses continued to deliver in the third quarter as Dodd tied the game at 7-7 and then tied it again at 8-8 after a penalty shot score. Castillo knotted the score at nine before Spain surged ahead by two, up 11-9 with :46 left in the quarter.
John Burghardt delivered a final salvo for Team USA, making it 11-10 going to the fourth. In the final period Spain's defense clamped down, not allowing a single goal from Team USA. In the meantime, Spain added two more scores to build a three goal cushion on the way to a 13-10 victory.
Team USA went 8/12 on power plays and 1/1 on penalties while Spain went 2/4 on power plays with no penalties attempted.
