Group A, Day 2

Pro Recco 13 - 9 Jadran Split

Vouliagmeni 7 - 11 Barceloneta


Pro Recco got off to an excellent start, scoring in their first possession. In the 6th minute, Recco led 3-0. Jadran did not surrender without a big battle. They finished the first and opened the second period with goals to close the gap to one (2-3). In the next two minutes, each team scored two goals apiece. Pro Recco regained a 2-goal lead twice, but Jadran halved the deficit both times. In the 14th minute, Recco converted on a man-up advantage. Team USA center Ben Hallock scored immediately after Jadran failed to convert on a power play and Pro Recco had a 3-goal advantage at the halftime break (7-4). Jadran managed to cut the deficit to one goal again. In the middle of the third quarter, they found the net from a distance to make the score 7-8. Recco replied with two goals to stretch the margin to three. In the fourth period, Pro Recco netted two goals from close-range shots, including Hallock in the 27th minute. They built a safe four-goal advantage and secured their first three points of the season. Hallock scored three goals for Pro Recco in the win.
 


Vouliagmeni played well but could not surprise the favorite from Spain. Both defenses were excellent in the opening minutes. The teams were in a neck-and-neck race in the second period, but Barceloneta had a slim 4-3 advantage at halftime. Barceloneta scored from a 6-on-5 for a 2-goal advantage for the first time. Vouliagmeni halved the distance in the next attack, but then came crucial moments. Barceloneta scored three goals to go up four for the first time (8-4). Vouliagmeni scored twice to cut the deficit to 6-8, however, Barceloneta responded with two goals, went up 10-6, and avoided a close finish. Team USA defender Dylan Woodhead scored one goal for Vouliagmeni in the loss.
 


Group B, Day 2

Marseille 9 - 14 Jug AO


The beginning of the game didn't indicate that Jug would earn the points. Marseille had a 2-goal lead in the opening minutes three different times (3-1, 4-2, 5-3). Jug leveled at 5-5 after netting from a nice backhand. Jug went ahead with two goals in the last 128 seconds of the first half. First, they leveled from a distance from the left side of the attack. Then, Jug took the lead, scoring from the right side. Marseille equalized twice in the third quarter (7-7 & 8-8), but Jug dominated between the 20th and 24th minute. The hosts scored four straight goals in that interval which determined the outcome.

1st Leg

Noisy-le-Sec 12 - 20 Trieste

Barcelona 10 - 13 Sabac


Trieste defeated Noisy-le-Sec behind a flood of goals. Neither of the defenses showed up, but Trieste's attack was much better than Noisy's. Noisy took a 4-2 lead early, but Trieste finished the first quarter with three goals to earn a 5-4 lead. Early in the second, Noisy leveled at 5-5. Trieste built a 7-5 lead before Noisy scored for 6-7 in the 11th minute. Then, between 13th and 23rd minute, Trieste produced a 7-0 run to effectively end this one. It gained a 14-6 advantage and maintained the difference until the end. Team USA attacker Alex Bowen scored five times for Noisy in defeat.

Barcelona and Sabac were level twice in the opening minutes (1-1 & 3-3), but Sabac scored the last two goals in the first quarter. From that point on, Sabac never trailed. In the 12th minute, they extended the margin to three. In the third period, Sabac had a 4-goal advantage (9-5, 10-6, 11-7), but the Spaniards were a better rival in the final minutes. They halved the deficit in the 29th minute after converting a man-up advantage for 10-12. However, Sabac answered immediately, also from a 6-on-5 and there were no goals in the remaining time. Team USA attacker Marko Vavic scored twice for Barcelona in the loss.
 

 

Italian League, Day 7

Telimar 11 - 4 Quinto

Pro Recco 22 - 8 Anzio

Posillipo 9 - 13 Trieste


Telimar's defense was finally at a high level, which led them to a convincing victory over Quinto. Per usual, Team USA attackers Johnny Hooper and Max Irving were the key figures on offense. Quinto scored the first goal after less than a minute of play, but the Sicilians tightened their defense and netted five consecutive goals (three from Hooper and two from Irving) for a 5-1 lead in the middle of the second quarter. Quinto reduced the gap to three a few times. In the 19th minute, the visitors scored their fourth goal to make the score 4-7. In the remaining time, Telimar produced a 4-0 run for a big win. Hooper and Irving both scored four times to lead Telimar to victory.
 


A rejuvenated Pro Recco team ran past Anzio, 22-8.

Trieste didn't shine, but it earned the points after beating Posillipo. Trieste led 4-3 after the first period. However, Posillipo opened the second quarter with four goals in four minutes and went ahead, 7-4. Trieste managed to come back and by the end of the first half, the score was level at 7-7. Midway through the third quarter, Trieste built a two-goal lead and dominated the final period for a 13-9 victory. Team USA attacker Tyler Abramson scored twice for Posillipo in defeat.
 


Hungarian League, Day 6

Kaposvary 9 - 12 Honved


Kaposvary, led by Team USA utility man Kacper Langiewicz, got a dream start in their match against Honved. The hosts led 6-1 in the 10th minute, but the visitors recovered from an opening shock. Early in the third period, Honved cut the deficit to one goal, before Kaposvary doubled their advantage immediately (8-6). That was followed by a 6-0 run for Honved. In the 22nd minute, Honved caught up with the hosts (8-8). The Budapest-based side scored four goals in the first four minutes of the final period and went up 12-8 to put three points in its bag. Langiewicz recorded a hat trick for Kaposvary in the loss.
 

  

Spanish League, Day 8

Barcelona 10 - 12 Terrassa

Mediterrani 11 - 10 Sant Andreu

Mataro 6 - 14 Barceloneta


Terrassa beat and caught up with Barcelona in points. The first quarter saw six goals, and the sides were tied at 3-3. Terrassa took control after the first break. They kept Barcelona scoreless while they netted three goals and entered the second half leading 6-3. Terrassa stretched the margin to four at the beginning of the third quarter, but they couldn't keep a big lead. Barcelona produced a 6-2 run and leveled the score at 9-9. From there, Terrassa retook control. The hosts scored three unanswered goals within 120 seconds and secured a 12-9 advantage a minute and three seconds before the end. Team USA attacker Luca Cupido scored once for Barcelona in defeat.

Mediterrani earned a win against Sant Andreu after a penalty shootout. Mediterrani could have taken the points earlier. In the third quarter, they had a 6-2, 7-3, and 8-6 lead, but couldn't keep the advantage. Sant Andreu leveled at 8-8 and prolonged the match, but it fell in a penalty shoot.
 


Barceloneta didn't wait long to prove which team the favorite was in the game against Mataro. After eight minutes of play, the reigning champion had a 2-goal advantage and scored four straight goals in the second quarter to jump to a comfortable 8-2 advantage on their way to the 14-6 win.


French League, Day 7

Marseille 13 - 5 Tourcoing

Aix-en-Provence 13 - 17 Sete


Marseille recovered from a loss in Dubrovnik and killed all the suspense in the derby quickly. The title-holder rushed out to a 4-0 lead before Tourcoing's first goal. At halftime, the score stood at 9-1. Marseille's defense weakened after the middle break, but the hosts maintained an 8-goal difference.

Sete arrived and defeated Aix-en-Provence in a 30-goal match. Aix-en-Provence started very well. The hosts held a 2-0 and 4-1 lead early. In the middle of the second quarter, Aix-en-Provence was two steps ahead of Sete (6-4). But the visitors netted three goals in a row in the last four minutes of the first half and earned a 7-6 advantage before the halftime break. From that point on, Sete was always in front. Early in the third quarter, Sete doubled the distance (8-6) before Aix-en-Provence halved the deficit (7-8). But Sete replied with three goals, building an 11-7 lead in the 25th minute. Thirteen goals were scored in the final eight minutes, but Sete's win wasn't in danger. Team USA attacker Thomas Dunstan recorded a hat trick for Aix-en-Provence in the loss.
 


Greek League, Day 10

Vouliagmeni 16 - 8 Ilysiakos

Peristeri 5 - 6 Chania


Vouliagmeni firmly holds first place in Group B. In a pause between the 9th and 10th rounds, Vouliagmeni played a postponed derby against Apollon and recorded a 13-9 victory. In the 10th round, the Champions League club faced the bottom-placed Ilysiakos. Vouliagmeni recorded a 16-8 win after having a 14-3 lead in the third period.
