Mission Viejo, CA - Stanford emerged victorious this weekend as Men's Senior Nationals Champions as they prevented Olympic Club from sweeping all of the 2019 National League events. After defeating two time defending champion Alumni in the semi-finals Stanford matched up against NYAC in the final at Capistrano Valley High School with the two teams already having played previously in the tournament. NYAC came out on top in the earlier matchup, but it was Stanford's turn this time as they came from behind to defeat NYAC 13-12 in the final. The third place game was also a rematch as Olympic Club avenged an earlier loss to Alumni by defeating them 17-9. For complete results,Â

In the championship game, NYAC jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before Stanford got on the board, but NYAC would score the final goal of the quarter as they took a 4-1 lead into the break. Stanford regrouped in the second quarter as they went on a 3-1 run to close within 5-4, but NYAC answered with goals from Reed Cotteril and Ryder Roberts to extend their advantage to 7-4 at halftime. NYAC had a big chance early in the third to extend their advantage to four goals on a penalty shot, but Andrew Chun came up with a thunderous five meter save to keep Stanford in the game. Following the save Stanford seized the momentum as they went on a 4-1 run to tie the game at 8-8 on a goal by Parker Killion. NYAC would answer with a goal from Brett Bonnani to take a 9-8 lead at the end of the third quarter. NYAC would take a two goal lead early in the fourth, but Stanford responded with two of their own to tie the game at 10-10. The teams would swap goals before Quinn Woodhead put Stanford ahead at 12-11 for the first time with 1:10 left in the game. Larsen Weigle would add another after a Chun save on the power play as Stanford went on to win 13-12.
In earlier action Long Beach took down Davis 12-8 for ninth place and Sunset San Diego held off a late comeback as they defeated Santa Barbara 10-8 to take seventh place. NYAC B downed Golden Bear 13-10 to take fifth and Olympic wound up third by defeating Alumni 17-9.
