Alex Rodriguez has been a coach at many levels within the USA Water Polo Men’s National Team pipeline. He joined the Senior National Team staff in 2014-2015 and also plays a prominent role with the Men’s National Team pipeline. He’s also head coach of Men’s and Women’s Water Polo at the Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.
While with the Sagehens, Rodriguez helmed 16 conference titles, leading the men’s program to SCIAC titles in 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012 (co-champions), 2016, 2017, and 2018—as well as SCIAC titles for the women’s program in 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 (co-champions), 2017, 2018, and 2019.
The Pomona-Pitzer Women’s Water Polo program has made seven NCAA Championship appearances during Rodriguez’ tenure, earning the SCIAC’s automatic bid with his first five league titles. The men’s program also reached the NCAA Tournament three seasons in a row (2016-2018). Rodriguez came to Pomona-Pitzer from Pepperdine University where he has served as assistant coach for the Men’s Water Polo program from 2002-06. Rodriguez was an All-American player at Pepperdine and was a member of the Waves’ 1997 National Championship team.
Rodriguez was head coach of the boys’ water polo team at Bonita High School in 2001, guiding the squad to the CIF Southern Section Championship. He was named the CIF and Los Angeles Times’ Inland Valley Coach of the Year in 2001.
