Athlete of the Month - November 2012
Madeline Loggins - 680 Drivers

Madeline Loggins, 13, of Trace, Ca attending Tom Hawkins School is a dedicated student
athlete. As a member of the 680 Drivers out of the Dublin-Walnut Creek area, Maddie manages
traveling for practice several times a week and maintain an A/B average. She has participated
in the ODP program for the last two years and was selected to attend the National Training
Selection Camp last spring.
Her dedication, work ethic and determination have allowed her to succeed both in the water
and in the classroom. Most significant is her ability to persevere during adversity. This was
never more evident then after she sustained a serious concussion during the Semi Finals of the
Junior Olympics. Maddie suffered a severe hit during the 3rd quarter and was removed from
the water. At the end of the game she was taken by ambulance to a local trauma center and
admitted into intensive care overnight.
One week later at a concussion specialist appointment, it was clear how severe her injury was.
Madeline was not able to attend the first two weeks of school and was integrated back a few
hours at a time the following few weeks. On October 9th, 9.5 weeks after her injury she was
able to return to school full time and return to limited practice. Madeline was able to return to
full practice and game situations on October 16th, almost two weeks before she would attend
Turbo Cup in Michigan with her team.
Maddie played in her first tournament since her injury and she helped her team earn a bronze
Medal. She played hard without hesitation and although not in top shape she never gave up.
Madeline's dedication and determination as a student athlete have allowed her not only to
return to the sport she loves, but to completely catch up on all school work she missed due to
her injury.
