USA Men Defeated By The Netherlands 12-11 On Final Day At 2026 World Aquatics World Cup Division 1 Tournament

Team USA attacker Chase Dodd scored three goals in the loss to the Netherlands

Alexandroupoli, Greece - April 12 - The USA Men concluded play at the 2026 World Aquatics World Cup Division 1 Tournament today with a 12-11 loss to the Netherlands. Chase Dodd scored three goals for the United States as goalkeeper Charlie Mills recorded five saves in net. Team USA finishes in seventh place despite the loss due to having a better point differential than the Dutch in second round action.

High-scorer Chase Dodd got going right away with the game's first goal. The Netherlands responded with its first before Ryder Dodd put the Americans back in front. Another pair of scores from the Dutch were sandwiched around Bode Brinkema's power play goal leaving the score level at 3-3 after one.

Chase Dodd put home his second to begin the second period. Team captain Max Irving joined the party on an extra man advantage before Chase Dodd secured his hat trick and a three-goal edge for Team USA. The Netherlands flipped a switch the finish the period out strong. Three consecutive goals came in just over one minute to knot the score at 6-6 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Holland scored quickly before Marko Vavic and Ben Liechty pushed the United States back in front. The two sides traded goals once more with Irving claiming the lead for the Americans midway through the third. With just under two minutes left in the frame, Holland leveled the score once again at 9-9.

It all came down to the fourth period with the game still knotted up. Ryder Dodd put Team USA in front first but the Dutch responded from six meters. Nicolas Saveljic buried a free throw for the United States but the Netherlands immediately answered again. With the game in the balance, the Netherlands stepped up to provide the winning score with three minutes left to secure the 12-11 win.

Team USA went 7/11 on power plays and no penalties attempted while the Netherlands went 4/8 on power plays and 1/1 on penalties.
