FTC Telekom was able to hold off Pro Recco and Max Irving at home in Budapest to lift the European Super Cup for the second consecutive year. The triumph is FTC Telekom's sixth European Super Cup and brings them that much closer to Pro Recco's all-time mark of nine.

Max Irving scored twice for Pro Recco in its 18-11 win over Trieste to begin the Italian slate with back-to-back wins. Meanwhile, Team USA attacker Nicolas Saveljic registered a hat trick for TeliMar in its 8-6 home victory over the Training Academy from Rome.

Team USA utility man Jack Larsen and Sabadell opened play in the Spanish League with a 15-6 win over Tenerife Echeyde.

Panathinaikos and Team USA goalkeeper Adrian Weinberg got off to a dominant start in the Greek League, winning 20-3 and 25-4 over the first two games of the season. Elsewhere, Team USA attacker Hannes Daube scored four goals for Apollon Smyrnis in a 21-10 win over Glyfada and two goals in a 26-7 victory against Thalassis. The action in Greece leaves both Americans with a 2-0 start to domestic league play.

Tara Prentice was named match MVP after scoring three goals for Sabadell in its 18-5 opening win over Mediterrani. American goalkeeper Isabel Williams was strong in net to begin Spanish League play. Team USA attacker Jewel Roemer scored twice as Mataro upended Real Canoe, 14-6. Finally, Team USA attacker Maryn Dempsey notched a hat trick for Tenerife Echeyde in its narrow 15-13 loss to Barceloneta.
