Team USA got off to a slow start in this one falling behind 5-1 after the first quarter. They were able to slow the Montenegro offense in the second quarter, allowing just three goals, but trailed at intermission 8-3. It was a similar story in the third quarter as Montenegro outscored Team USA 3-1 to hold an 11-4 lead going to the final period. In the last quarter the United States put together their best offensive output, delivering three goals, but allowed four as Montenegro cruised to victory.
The United States went 5/10 on power plays with a missed penalty conversion while Montenegro went 3/5 on power plays and 3/4 on penalty shots.
