Team USA captain
Maggie Steffens started the scoring in this one with a five meter penalty shot before
Kaleigh Gilchrist floated a lob shot over the defense for another score. Australia would get one back at the hands of Dani Jackovich before the quarter ended with the United States up 2-1.
In the second period, both defenses pitched shutouts for the first four minutes. Raney broke the ice with a power play goal and Musselman deposited her first during another player advantage. Jackovich had the answer for Australia again, but Musselman closed the quarter with another score and brought Team USA's lead to 5-2.
Early in the third, Roemer knocked down her first score off an assist from
Ryann Neushul and that would be the only change on the scoreboard in the period.
The final frame brought the largest offensive explosion of the day from both sides. The United States put home eight goals as Raney, Steffens,
Rachel Fattal, Musselman (2),
Jenna Flynn, Roemer, and Neushul all recorded fourth quarter scores to counter four goals from Alice Williams (2), Sienna Green, and Tilly Kearns for the Aussie Stingers as Team USA earned the 14-6 win.
