Coimbra, Portugal - September 10 - The USA Women's Junior National Team finished group play at the World Aquatics Junior World Championships with a 10-8 loss to Hungary.
Jenna Flynn and
Emily Ausmus paced the offense with three goals apiece with
Christine Carpenter recording eight saves in net. A replay of the match is available by

Hungary got off to a strong start opening the match with a 2-0 start before Flynn got Team USA on the board, making it 2-1 after one. After Hungary went up 4-2 in the second quarter, Flynn scored again, this time on a power play to make it 4-3. Hungary answered with two straight to make it 6-3 at halftime. Hungary opened the scoring in the third quarter with one of their four penalty shot goals on the day to open up a four goal edge at 7-3. Team USA started to battle back scoring three straight goals to close out the quarter courtesy of Ausmus, Flynn and
Ella Woodhead making it a 7-6 Hungary lead going to the fourth.
Team USA came all the way back early in the fourth as Ausmus struck first to tie the match at 7-7 less than a minute into the period. Hungary responded in a major way, pitching a shutout for the next seven minutes while scoring three unanswered goals to take control of the match at 10-7. Woodhead added a goal late but Hungary had secured the win, moving on with a two goal victory.
The United States went 5/13 on power plays with no penalties attempted while Hungary was 2/5 on power plays and 4/4 on penalties.
