Belgrade, Serbia - June 3 - The U.S. Men's Junior National Team opened play at the 2023 "Belgrade Trophy" tournament with a 7-8 loss to Hungary. Chase Dodd led the charge offensively for Team USA with four goals scored in the game.
Hungary got things started in this one with an opening goal midway through the first quarter. Chase McFarland responded to level the score for Team USA before the Hungarians retook the lead at the end of the period. In the second, Hungary tacked on two more scores before Chase Dodd drilled his first goal of the day followed by Ryder Dodd cutting the Americans' deficit to one. Hungary was able to finish the first half with a score for a 5-3 lead at the half.
Chase Dodd opened the second half scoring and the two sides traded goals throughout the third quarter. Hungary scored next and then Ben Liechty answered for the United States. Late in the quarter, the Hungarians added one more to their tally to bolster the lead headed into the fourth. In the final frame, Chase Dodd deposited two more goals for the Americans but Hungary managed one score to narrowly push across the finish line with an 8-7 win.
