Rally Comes Up Short For USA Junior Men In Semifinal Loss To Hungary At Junior World Championship

Bucharest, Romania - June 16 - A strong second-half rally that saw the USA Junior Men tie the match at 8-8 in the fourth quarter, came up short as Team USA lost to Hungary 13-9 in the semifinals of the World Aquatics Junior World Championship. The United States, already assured of their best finish ever in this event, will meet Greece for the bronze medal tomorrow at 11am et/8am pt. Live streaming is available by clicking here. In the loss against Hungary it was Ryder Dodd leading the charge once more with four goals with West Temkin recording eight saves in net.

Hungary took control of the match early, opening up a 2-0 lead before going in front 4-1 after one. In the second quarter Team USA trailed throughout but scored two of the last three goals to close within three at 6-3 moving to intermission. After falling behind 7-3 to open the third, the United States made their move. Four unanswered goals followed, capped by a Grant Watson tally to tie the game at 7-7 with 1:18 to play. Hungary had the final word and built an 8-7 lead going to the fourth. 

Dodd scored with 6:23 to play in the fourth, tying the match at 8-8. It was all Hungary the rest of the way as they outscored Team USA 5-1 to take the victory 13-9.
