Irvine, CA - March 16 - With a continued focus on the health and wellness of USA Water Polo members and the water polo community in regards to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we are announcing the cancellation of several upcoming events. This comes on the heels of the CDC announcement recommending no gatherings of 50 or more people for the next eight weeks.
Following a communication earlier today from FINA (Fédération internationale de natation) regarding the cancellation and/or postponement of all FINA World League water polo events over the next three months, USA Water Polo has announced the cancellation of the 2020 FINA Men's and Women's Intercontinental Tournament. The event was scheduled to be held at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana this April 28-May 3.
In addition, following the cancellation of competition by multiple conferences competing in women's collegiate water polo for the spring season, the inaugural USA Water Polo Division III Women's National Championship has been canceled. This event was scheduled for May 8-10 in Southern California. The event will now be scheduled for May, 2021.
Lastly, week three of the 2020 National League, scheduled for April 4-5 in Thousand Oaks, CA Â and the National League Championship/Fisher Cup set for May 16-17 in La Jolla, CA has been canceled.
All other USA Water Polo events will be evaluated in the coming weeks. Â
