Great Lakes Classic Crowns Four Champions In Ann Arbor

July 18, 2017 Ann Arbor, MI - July 18 - The Great Lakes Classic concluded this past Sunday at the University of Michigan with four champions crowned. On the boy's side it was a dominant performance by Wolverine as they won the 18U and 16U titles. In girl's competition Spartan claimed the 18U title while NIPC were the victors in 16U play. 16u Girls Final - NIPC 12 Spartan A White 11

In a back and forth game that saw 6 ties and 3 lead changes in the 2nd half, NIPC pulled out an exciting 12-11 victory on a goal by Lauren Maloney with 14 seconds to go. NIPC held off a Spartan 6 on 5 in the final 5 seconds to secure the victory. Lauren Maloney & Shreya Sreedhar had 4 goals each for NIPC, Claire Tuttle & Chole Graverson had 5 each for the Spartan Water Polo Club.

18u Boys Final - Wolverine 11 Mid-Michigan Raptor 7

Wolverine held off another late Raptor rally and pulled away for an 11-7 win. The game tightened to 10-7 with just over 4 minutes to go before the defenses locked down the rest of the way. Matteo Procoppe tallied 5 goals in the win, and Brock Monette paced Raptor with 3 goals.

18u Girls Final - Spartan 8 NIPC 4

In a match-up between two of the best 18u girls teams in the midwest, Spartan used 3 goals in the final 4 minutes to pull away for the 8-4 win. Sydney Fountain led all scorers with 4 goals. Claire Haas & Eleanor Michaud scored 2 each for NIPC.

16u Boys Final - Wolverine 7.4 Spartan 7.1

Wolverine used a 3 goal run in the 2nd quarter to build a 4-1 lead, but the Spartan Water Polo Club would eventually rally to tie the game 6-6 and 7-7 in the 4th quarter. Both teams played good team defense in the final two minutes eventually forcing a shoot-out that Wolverine would win 4-1. Wolverine had a balanced attack getting two goals from Diego Burks, Keegan Gardner, and Edwin Barnett. Ian Worst tallied four goals for the Spartan club.
