USC Maintains Number One Spot Headed Into Conference Championship

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The University of Southern Californiamaintains the title as the best team in the varsity women's water polo ranks as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the Week 15/April 27 Women's Varsity Top 25, Division III Top 10 and CWPA Top 10 Polls.

USC remains at No. 1 for the 11th consecutive week as the squad once again garnered 100 points to rate as a unanimous top choice by the pollsters.  

Whittier College hangs on to the top spot in the Division III Top 10 with the University of Michigan continuing at No. 1 in theCWPA Top 10.  

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the CWPA, Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), Big West Conference, Golden Coast Conference, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the polls are compiled and released on each Wednesday during the season through the week following the NCAA Championship.

2016 WOMEN'S VARSITY NATIONAL TOP 25 (WEEK 15/APRIL 27)

The University of Southern California remains the undisputed No. 1-ranked women's water polo team in the land as the Women of Troy pick up 100 points to once again rate in the top spot of the Week 15/April 27 Women's Varsity National Top 25 Poll.

Positions No. 1-to-6 remain the same this week as USC (100 points), the University of California-Los Angeles (96 points), Stanford University (92 points), Arizona State University (88 points), the University of Michigan (82 points) and the University of California (77 points) remain locks in the upper echelon of the poll.

The University of California-Irvine (74 points) and the University of Hawaii (69 points) move up to No. 7 and 8, respectively, while the University of California-Santa Barbara (67 points) drops two places to No. 9.  The University of California-Davis (65 points) hangs onto the final spot in the Top 10 for another week.

Long Beach State University (63 points) goes up to No. 11 with the University of California-San Diego (58 points) and San Jose State University (57 points) sliding to No. 12 and 13.

Indiana University (46 points) and San Diego State University (43 points) stick at No. 14 and 15 for another seven-day stretch.  TheUniversity of the Pacific (40 points) leaps over Princeton University (32 points) to claim the No. 16 berth, with the Tigers, Harvard University (30 points), Wagner College (27 points) and Bucknell University (24 points) close out the Top 20.

Hartwick College (21 points), Loyola Marymount University (16 points), California Baptist University (13 points), California State University-Northridge (10 points) and California State University, Bakersfield (6 points) finish out the Top 25.

2016 WOMEN'S VARSITY DIVISION III TOP 10 (WEEK 15/APRIL 27)

Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) champion Whittier College continues to rate as the top Division III team as the Poets register 100 points to retain the No. 1 spot in the Week 15/April 27 Women's Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll.

Following the conclusion of the SCIAC Championship, the Poets (100 points) are now a unanimous No. 1 selection as the championship caused shifts in this week's Division III Top 10.

The University of La Verne (95 points) moves past Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (90 points) to take over at No. 2, while Chapman University (90 points) claims sole possession of the No. 4 slot after tying withClaremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (85 points) last week.

Positions No. 6-to-10 also shift to a degree as California Lutheran University (75 points) surpasses theUniversity of Redlands (69 points) to take over at No. 6 and Occidental College (63 points) gets over the hump against Connecticut College (62 points), which captured the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Championship last weekend, to claim the No. 8 spot.

Washington & Jefferson College (56 points) joins top-ranked Whittier as the only teams in the Division III Top 10 that were not involved in some change this week as the Presidents hold firm at No. 10 for another week.

2016 WOMEN'S CWPA TOP 10 (WEEK 15/APRIL 27)

No competition equals no change as the University of Michigan continues to reign supreme as the Wolverines retain the No. 1 spot in the Week 15/April 27 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Top 10 Poll.

A ranking of the league's entire varsity membership (Division I/II/III), the poll reflects as a consensus of the Wolverines as currently the top team in the league as Michigan picks up 100 points after rolling to a 7-0 regular season league mark to claim the No. 1 seed for the upcoming CWPA Championship on Friday-Sunday, April 29-May 1, at Harvard University's Blodgett Pool.

The rankings from No. 1-to-8 reflect the order of regular season finish by the CWPA's Division I member institutions as Indiana University (95 points), Bucknell University (90 points), Princeton University (85 points) and Harvard (80 points) rate at No. 2-to-5 behind the Wolverines.

Hartwick College (75 points), Brown University (70 points) and George Washington University (63 points) round out the Division I institutions.

Four-time (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016) CWPA Division III Champion Connecticut College (62 points) holds at No. 9 with CWPA Division III Championship runner-up Washington & Jefferson College (55 points) sticking at No. 10.
