Jan. 27, 2014

Huntington Beach Calif. - January 27, 2014 -- Takeshi Inoue, USA Water Polo's Chief International Delegate, has been named to the FINA Technical Water Polo Committee. Inoue was nominated by United States Water Polo and was approved by the FINA Bureau at its General Congress in Barcelona, Spain at the 2013 FINA World Championships. Inoue began his term in August and served in his first official capacity at the FINA Men's Junior World Championship this past summer in Hungary.

"I am extremely honored to be elected as one of 18 international members onto the FINA Technical Water Polo Committee," said Inoue. "This being the highest committee in the sport of water polo, I will be serving mainly as the commissioner of evaluation and appointment of referees for all FINA events, including the Olympic games. My other responsibilities include: selecting and running events; developing rules of play; coordinating and conducting referee school; and promoting the development of water polo throughout the world."

Inoue was born in Tokyo and played water polo for the Japanese national team. He also played at California State University at Long Beach and was granted United States citizenship in 2005. In 2007, he founded the United Water Polo Club. A past member of the Japanese Water Polo Committee and an honorary member of the International Water Polo Referee Association (AIA), Inoue attended most of the world’s top water polo tournaments during the past 20 years in various capacities. In 2011 Inoue was named USA Water Polo's Chief International Delegate and later that year was added to the UANA Technical Water Polo Committee.

"As a Japanese national, born and raised in Tokyo, water polo is my passion and also has opened doors for me to have the opportunity to live in the USA. I have been involved in water polo for 40 years with more than 30 years of international experience," added Inoue. "I think that USA Water Polo has had great success in international water polo and possesses strong potential to continue to build on those achievements. I am excited to be able to represent the United States in those efforts going forward."
