No Changes In Top 5 Of Women's Varsity Poll

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The University of Southern California remains unchallenged at No. 1 as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the Week 9/March 20 National Top 20, Division III Top 10, CWPA Division I/II Top 10 and CWPA Division III Top Five.

USC joins Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (Division III Top 10) and Grove City College (CWPA Division III Top Five) in defending a No. 1 ranking from last week, while Princeton University displacesIndiana University for the No. 1 position in the CWPA Division I/II Top 10 Poll.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the CWPA, Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), Big West Conference, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2013 Women's Varsity Nationa l Top 20

The University of Southern California garnered 100 points for the fourth time in as many weeks to retain its position as the unanimous top team in the 2013 Week 9/March 20 Women's Varsity National Top 20 Poll.

USC, which displaced Stanford University (95 points) for the top position, leads a Top 10 which experienced one change from the March 13 balloting.

Stanford, Arizona State University (90 points), the University of California-Los Angeles (85 points) and the University of California (80 points) remain locks at No. 2-to-5, respectively.

However, the No. 6 and 7 positions exchange hands as San Diego State University (72 points) inches in front of the University of California-Irvine(71 points) by a single point.

The University of Hawaii (67 points), Long Beach State University (58 points) and San Jose State University (57 points) continue at No. 8-to-10.

Similar to the No. 6 and 7 positions, the No. 11 and 12 berths also switch as Princeton University (42 points) sneaks past Indiana University (39 points) to move within striking distance of the Top 10.

California State University-Northridge (37 points) and Loyola Marymount University (34 points) remain at No. 13 and 14, respectively, while the University of California-Santa Barbara (32 points) is joined by the University of California-San Diego (32 points) in a tie at No. 15.

Due to UC-San Diego's two position rise to No. 15, the University of California-Davis (21 points) sinks to No. 17, with the University of Michigan (17 points), Hartwick College (12 points) and the University of the Pacific (9 points) rounding out the Top 20.

2013 Women's Varsity Division III Top 10

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges Athenas picked up 98 points for a second week in-a-row to retain the No. 1 position in the 2013 Week 9/March 20 Women's Varsity National Division III Top 10 Poll.

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (94 points), which held the No. 1 spot from the preseason poll until being displaced by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps two week ago, remains at No. 2 for the second time in as many weeks.

California Lutheran University (88 points), the University of Redlands (86 points) and Occidental College (79 points) remain locks at No. 3-to-5, respectively as the Top Five did not undergo a single change from the March 13 balloting.

However, the final five positions in the Top 10 did experience some drastic changes as Chapman University (75 points) jumped in front of Whittier College (74 points) to take over at No. 6.  Following Whittier, the University of La Verne (61 points) moved in front of Grove City College (59 points) to claim the No. 8 position.

The final spot in the poll also saw some movement as Connecticut College (50 points) acquired sole possession of the final spot in the Division III Top 10 after tying with Washington & Jefferson College (11 points) last week.

2013 Women's CWPA Division I/II Top 10

Change comes to the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I/II ranks for the first time since February 20 as Princeton University returns to the No. 1 spot in the 2013 Week 9/March 20 CWPA Division I/II Poll.

Princeton, which claimed the 2012 CWPA Eastern Championship and held the No. 1 ranking in the first five polls of the 2013 campaign (Preseason, January 23, January 30, February 6, February 13) garners 96 points to outdistance former No. 1 Indiana University (93 points) and co-runner-up the University of Michigan (93 points) for the top position.

The No. 4-to-9 berths in the poll remain unchanged as Hartwick College (87 points), Harvard University(81 points), Brown University (74 points), George Washington University (71 points), Bucknell University (64 points) and Mercyhurst University (61 points) hold on at their previous berths for another week.

Gannon University (33 points) completes the Top 10 as the Lady Knights outdistance Notre Dame College (22 points) for the final position.

2013 Women's CWPA Division III Top 5

The 2010, 2011 and 2012 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Champion Wolverines of Grove City College (98 points) remain the top selection as the No. 1 team in the Week 9/March 20 CWPA Division III Top Five Poll.

The No. 1 pick of the league's coaches for the 27th consecutive week, the Wolverines are now the No. 1 team in the league's division ranks by only a single point.

Connecticut College (97 points) closes the gap between Grove City and the rest of the field to only a single point, the smallest margin the Wolverines have held against their fellow CWPA Division III programs in over a year of competition.

Carthage College (88 points) and Macalester College (84 points) move up to No. 3 and 4, respectively, this week, while Washington & Jefferson College (83 points) drops back to No. 5.
