Pacific Holds Number One Ranking Headed Into MPSF Tournament

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The University of the Pacific continues to rank at No. 1 in the nation as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the November 27/Week 12 Men's Varsity National Top 20, Division III Top 10 and CWPA Top 10 Polls.

The Tigers, who took over at No. 1 three weeks ago, picks up 99 points in the November 27 voting as the Tigers received all but one first place vote from the pollsters.

In the Division III Top 10 Poll, Whittier College, which claimed the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) title last weekend, expands its lead to seven points over former co-No. 1 Johns Hopkins University and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.

2012 and 2013 CWPA Champion St. Francis College Brooklyn concludes the year with the No. 1 ranking in the league as the Terriers pick up 100 points to rate as a unanimous pick.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the CWPA, Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during each week of the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2013 Men's Varsity National Top 20 (Week 12)

The University of the Pacific continues to stand on top in the national picture of the varsity water polo community as the Tigers pick up 99 points and all but one first place vote for the third week in a row to retain the No. 1 position in the November 27/Week 12 National Top 20 Poll for a second week in a row.

Pacific, which became the first team other than the University of Southern California, the University of California-Los Angeles, the University of California and Stanford University to hold the No. 1 position in the National Top 20 since 2006, sees its lead shrink to three points for the top spot in the National Top 20.

The first six positions in the Top 10 remain unchanged from the November 20 voting as UCLA (96 points), Stanford (91 points), USC (85 points), California (80 points) and the University of California-Santa Barbara (75 points) continue at No. 2-to-6, respectively.

Long Beach State University (70 points) and the University of California-Irvine (65 points) both climb one position to No. 7 and 8, while Pepperdine University (60 points) falls back to No. 9 with Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) champion the University of California-San Diego (52 points) holding on at No. 10.

Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) champion St. Francis College Brooklyn (47 points) rises two spots to No. 11, with the University of California-Davis (46 points), Concordia University (43 points),  , Santa Clara University (36 points) and Loyola Marymount University (30 points) complete the Top 15.

Princeton University (29 points) moves up to No. 16, the United States Naval Academy (18 points) falls back to No. 17, Bucknell University (14 points) ascends to No. 18, Brown University (11 points) holds at No. 19 and the United States Air Force Academy (5 points) moves back into the rankings to conclude the Top 20.

2013 Men's Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 12)

Whittier College registers 97 points to maintain sole possession of the No. 1 position in the November 27/Week 12 Division III Top 10 Poll.

Whittier, which claimed the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) title over the weekend, now holds a seven-point lead overJohns Hopkins University (90 points) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (90 points).

The University of Redlands (87 points) remains locked in at No. 4, with Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (80 points) and Chapman University (77 points) taking over at No. 5 and 6.

California Lutheran University (71 points) stays at No. 7, with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (67 points), the University of La Verne (47 points) and Washington & Jefferson College(36 points) remaining the standard at No. 8-to-10.

2013 Men's Varsity CWPA Top 10 (Week 12 - FINAL)

St. Francis College Brooklyn (100 points), which claimed the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championship over the weekend via an 11-9 defeat of Princeton University atBrown University over the weekend, finishes the year in the No. 1 position in the November 27/Week 12/Final CWPA Top 10 poll.

The Northerrn Division Champion Terriers, who claimed the program's second consecutive CWPA Championship to join Yale University (1972-74), Bucknell University (1977-80), Brown (1983-85), the United States Naval Academy (1986-88, 2006-08) and the University of Massachusetts (1993-96, 1998-99) as the only programs in league history to claim back-to-back crowns, holds a five point lead over league championship runner-up Princeton (95 points).

Southern Division Champion United States Naval Academy (90 points) and Bucknell University (84 points) drop back to No. 3 and 4, while Brown (81 points) rises No. 5. 

Harvard University (74 points), George Washington University (69 points), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (64 points) account for No. 6-to-8, with Johns Hopkins University (63 points) and Mercyhurst University (55 points) rounding out the Top 10.
