Stanford Cardinal Stay Atop Varsity Top 20 Poll

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Stanford University, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and Grove City College retain their No. 1 spots in the National Top 20, Division III Top 10 and CWPA Division III Top Five Polls, while theUniversity of Michigan climbs to the top spot in the CWPA Division I/II rankings in the April 18/Week 13 Women's Varsity National Polls.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the CWPA, Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), Big West Conference, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the polls are compiled and released on each Wednesday during the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

 

2012 Women's Varsity National Top 20

Stanford University holds the No. 1 spot for a second week in a row as the Cardinal earned 100 points to rate as a unanimous top pick in the Week 13/April 18 Women's Varsity National Top 20 Poll.

Stanford, which held the No. 1 position from the preseason poll through the February 22 rankings, leads a Top 20 in which the first nine teams remain the same from the April 11 balloting with the University of California-Los Angeles (94 points), University of Southern California (91 points), University of California(84 points), Arizona State University (81 points), University of California-Irvine(75 points), Loyola Marymount University (71 points), San Jose State University (65 points) and San Diego State University (60 points) holding on at No. 2-to-9, respectively.

The first change in the poll comes at No. 10 as the University of Michigan (52 points) moves up three places to take over at No. 10, while the University of California-Davis (50 points) and Indiana University (42 points) hold firm at No. 11 and 12.

Princeton University (39 points) moves up to No. 13 and the University of Maryland (33 points) slides four spots to No. 14, with the University of Hawaii (28 points) and University of California-Santa Barbara (28 points) tied at No. 15.

Hartwick College (20 points) and California Baptist University (20 points) move into a tie at No. 17, withCalifornia State University-Northridge (10 points) and Iona College (6 points) completing the Top 20.

2012 Women's Varsity Division III Top 10

The Saghens of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges registered 11 points to return to being a unanimous top pick and hold onto the No. 1 spot in the April 18 Women's Varsity Division III Top 10 poll.

The University of Redlands (94 points) holds at No. 2, with Occidental College (91 points) moving up to No. 3 and California Lutheran University (85 points) dropping to No. 4.

The remainder of the Top 10 remains unchanged as Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges(79 points) and Chapman University (75 points) stay at No. 5 and 6, with University of La Verne (71 points), Whittier College (64 points), Grove City College (61 points) andWashington & Jefferson College (44 points) locked in at No. 7-to-10, respectively.

2012 Women's CWPA Division I/II Top 10

The University of Michigan (99 points) claimed its 11th consecutive division championship by capturing the Western Division crown to move up to No. 1 in the CWPA Division I/II Top 10 Poll.

The Wolverines, who were ranked No. 4 last week, used victories over Notre Dame College, Indiana University and Hartwick College, to leapfrog over Princeton University, Indiana, Hartwick and the University of Maryland and take over as the top-ranked team in the Collegiate Water Polo Association Division I/II ranks.

Princeton (94 points), which claimed the Southern Division title, moves up one place to take over at No. 2, with Indiana (88 points) and Hartwick (85 points) following at No. 3 and 4, respectively.

Maryland (84 points), which held the No. 1 spot last week, falls to No. 4 as the Terrapins finished fourth at the Western Division tournament behind Michigan, Hartwick and Indiana.

Brown University (73 points), which placed second at the Southern Division Championship, inches in front of Harvard University (72 points) for the sixth position with the Crimson dropping back to No. 7.

The remainder of the Top 10 remains unchanged as Bucknell University (65 points), George Washington University (60 points) and Mercyhurst University (55 points) stay at No. 8-to-10.

2012 Women's CWPA Division III Top 5

Grove City College remains a unanimous selection as the No. 1 team in the Week 13/April 18 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Top Five Poll for the 14th consecutive week dating back to the preseason balloting.

Overall, the rankings remain unchanged from the April 11 poll as Washington & Jefferson College (95 points), Wheaton College (90 points), Macalester College(85 points) and Connecticut College (80 points) remain locked in at No. 2-to-5, respectively, with one week until the CWPA Division III Championship hosted by Grove City at the James E. Longnecker Competition Pool.
